Training Criteria
This one-day training will equip service providers with information on how to assist parents who in recovery from substance use disorders and trauma. The training will expose aspects of parenting in recovery that are not often discussed in traditional parenting programs. The facilitator, Anneshia Freeman, is a person in long-term recovery (22 years) who has personal experience with parenting while recovering from SUDs and trauma. The training will include a panel discuss with three parents who will talk about the dilemmas they faced, while parenting in recovery from trauma and SUDs, that they figured out how to address by trial and error.

Participants will be able to:
- Define the Parenting Dilemma.
- Describe the dilemma of parenting while in recovery from SUDs and trauma.
- Define Erik Erikson’s Ages and Stages of Psychosocial Development.
- Define the Parenting Styles and the impact.
- Identify the impact of parenting out of guilt and shame.
- Describe the process of healing from a trauma-based belief system and SUDs simultaneously.
- Describe how to support parents who are in recovery from SUDs and trauma.
