Summary

 Responsible to perform professional level work in the field of substance abuse treatment and prevention work.  Responsibilities include assessing clients and providing group therapy as well as individual therapy within contractual and program guidelines. Will additionally present educational programming as needed, assist in the preparation of reports, and will maintain all related paperwork.  This work is confidential and requires a high degree of individual judgment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Conduct diagnostic assessments, formulate recommendations, and provide ongoing psychotherapy for adolescent and adult clients using individual, family, conjoint and group modalities.
  • Monitor progress toward treatment goals by evaluating and adjusting services provided.
  • Routinely and accurately assess risk, provide the appropriate de-escalation and follow the agency policy and procedure for safety and managing crisis.
  • Complete and maintain accurate and up-to-date (Real Time or Near Real Time) client files and reports, including, but not limited to: assessments, progress notes, treatment plans, quarterly and/or monthly reports, discharge summaries, reports, billing and insurance forms and any other written material required by the agency and/or entities contracting with the agency.
  • Document in a clear, accurate, concise and professional manner.
  • Provide appropriate referrals and serve as client advocate as needed. Participate in the coordination of treatment with other agencies as needed.
  • Maintain positive and direct communication with the SUD Program Manager especially regarding case consultation, program development and policy change.
  • Provide units of service as required by Full Time Equivalent (FTE) per the Employee Handbook.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development through attending outside training, agency in-services and training, as well as by preparing and presenting on topics of mental/behavioral health to agency staff, other professionals and the community at large. Hours of training required are outlined in individual licensure requirements by the state or by program/contract.
  • Prepare for, attend, and actively participate in regular individual and group supervision as well as monthly staff meetings. Attend agency All Staff Meetings.
  • Present a professional image and maintain professional behavior and boundaries at all times both, in the office, and when interacting as a representative of the agency within the community.
  • Maintain and demonstrate an attitude of respect towards clients, coworkers, supervisors and other agencies and professionals at all times.
  • Uphold all ethical and legal standards regarding client confidentiality.
  • Adhere to the Diocese of Lansing’s Code of Ethics and also code of ethics as directed by licensure.

 Education and/or Experience   

Required:  Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Criminal Justice or related field with 2 years of experience in the area of substance use disorder.  Must possess a CADC or in the process of obtaining.                             

 Preferred:  Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Criminal Justice or related field with 2 years of experience in the area of substance use disorder. 

 Language Skills                                             

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

 Mathematical Skills                                                    

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. 

 Reasoning Ability                                          

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills                                        

Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment.  Must include Word and skills in using the internet along with the ability to learn new programs.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Must be licensed in the State of Michigan.

 If a recovering person, a minimum of 4 years continuous sobriety is required.

Other Qualifications  

 Must be willing and able to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends as required.  Must possess a valid Michigan Driver’s License and provide a private vehicle to utilize on Agency business.  Must successfully pass a criminal background check including a LEIN clearance.

JOB DESCRIPTION – Primary Therapist Position at PNLH
Personalized Nursing LIGHT House is a premier behavioral health care provider with 32 years of specialized addiction treatment service serving the adult population. We offer a full continuum of treatment options across our various locations (Plymouth, Canton, Dearborn Heights, & Madison Heights). Our mission is to be an innovative and effective behavioral healthcare corporation (utilizing the LIGHT model of care), that strives for excellence clinically as well as administratively. Specifically, our intent is to increase client well-being, decrease addiction severity, improve the quality of clients' mental and physical heath and contribute positively to society. All services will integrate substance use disorder, mental health and primary health care treatment in cohesive and client-centered programs.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
We are seeking candidates to work at our Madison Heights and Plymouth locations. We are looking for individuals to assess, and develop service delivery treatment plans for persons recovering from Substance Use Disorder. Participate in team conferences with other professionals about clinical needs of the persons served. Assist in ensuring that appropriate services, including health care, psychological, financial, and legal, are provided to clients at the most affordable costs. Planning and coordinating of the client’s discharge plans. One key responsibility is to obtain authorization for services provided. Candidates will have counseling experience in Substance Use Disorder with co-occurring disorders. Excellent and efficient reporting skills a must.
These are full time positions working both days (8:30 am - 5:00 pm Monday-Friday).

RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Develop with client goal-oriented, time-limited, and measurable treatment plan goals based on identified needs.
2. Utilize the LIGHT Model in the assessment, teaching, and counseling of clients (one-on-one or in groups). Use the LIGHT Model in all counseling interactions.
3. Monitor and coordinate through contact with client/family and service providers to ensure optimal utilization of offered services and adequate provision of needed services.
4. Reassess goals with client to evaluate the effectiveness of plan in meeting pre-determined goals. Revise goals and/ or plans accordingly.
5. Establish and maintain up-to-date client records, including demographics, assessment, service plan implementation, and evaluation of care.
6. Coordinate continued care plans and complete discharge summaries.
7. Maintain client confidentiality.
8. Participate in multi-disciplinary case conference meetings.

REQUIREMENTS
A Master's degree in a human services field (social work, psychology, etc.), with licensure (LLMSW, LMSW, LLPC, LPC) preferred. Also, preference for candidate with MCBAP certification (CADC) or approved development plan. PNLH will assist applicants in obtaining MCBAP certification. At least two (2) years substance abuse counseling experience is also required.
Job Type: Full-time
Salary: $22.00 - $27.00 per hour (depending on experience, credentials and licensure).
